Welcome to Sarah Oak Therapy
Hello and welcome to my website.
We all experience difficulties at times in our lives and having someone to talk to about our thoughts and feelings, can help us cope with our worries, understand our problems and make sense of our emotions.
Therapy (also referred to as counselling) can provide that safe, private space where you can reflect and talk confidentially about the things that are troubling you, be listened to without being judged and empower you to find your own solutions, bring about change and increase your wellbeing.
As an Integrative Therapist, I use a variety of therapeutic counselling and coaching approaches to meet the needs of my clients. These approaches are:
- Personal Centred Approach (PCA)
This approach is based on the belief that we each have a tendency to want to become the best we can be and reach our full potential. The relationship between the client and the therapist is significant to the process and the 'growth' of the client as they feel understood, accepted and respected.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is goal orientated. The client and therapist work actively together, in a structured manner, to help the client overcome difficulties by challenging unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviours, and work towards specific goals. Homework may be included.
- Transactional Analysis (TA)
TA is a theory of personality and relationships. It looks into what goes on between people, how they interact and communicate. It explores how the client thinks and feels, in order to help them make informed decisions and considered changes to the dynamics between themselves and others.
- Therapeutic Coaching
Therapeutic Coaching uses a combination of advanced counselling, CBT and solution focus to enable the client to become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, behaviours and inner resource. It concentrates on the present and future in order to identify goals, consider obstacles, activate positive decision making and implement rehearsal techniques to achieve required outcomes.
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
SFBT encourages the client to think about times when they have successfully managed and resolved similar problems and ways to apply these methods in the future.
Walk and Talk Therapy
Sometimes it can be helpful to be outdoors and physically in motion to stimulate thoughts and creativity. Or it may be difficult or uncomfortable to be seated for a counselling session in a therapy room if health issues are a factor.
I can offer walk and talk therapy, which combines traditional talking therapy with the dynamic of walking, side by side, at a pace that suits you. The experience of being in an outside space, connecting with nature and physical movement, releases endorphins and can reduce tension. This enhances the therapeutic process and elevates mood.
Trust is an important part of the process, so anything you share with me will be kept completely private and confidential. The only exceptions to this would be if:-
- I believed there was an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others
- there were a legal requirement e.g. serious criminal activity, in the interest of public health or a Court Order
This can be explained in more detail during our initial consultation, where we can talk through any questions you may have.
I work in safe, secure and quiet settings based in both Shenley Lodge, Milton Keynes MK5 and Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes, MK11.
These locations are within easy commute of surrounding areas; MK1, MK2, MK3, MK4, MK6, MK7, MK8, MK9, MK10, MK12, MK13, MK14 and MK15.
If you are thinking of taking that first step, I would be pleased to hear from you and discuss this option with you.
Extremely helpful. Therapy has helped me let go of a lot of issues and understand my personality traits. It's given me the skills to cope with difficulties in my life.
I offer face to face, online & telephone sessions.
