Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?
Therapy (also known as counselling) offers you the opportunity to talk about thoughts and feelings with a qualified professional in a confidential space with the aim to bring about change and increase wellbeing.

How often do I attend therapy?
I work in an open ended way and can provide short-term or long-term therapy/counselling. Therapy sessions may be held weekly, on the same day and at the same time each week or booked on a flexible basis to accommodate shift work etc.

Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, online sessions are available. This form of therapy/counselling is also referred to as internet counselling, e-counselling, web therapy or remote therapy. Increasingly, more clients and supervisees are choosing to work via this format, for convenience, cost considerations and to eliminate location restrictions.

Are online sessions second best to face to face sessions?
Not at all. Online sessions are as effective as being in the same room as the Therapist. Online sessions offer the ability to connect with a Therapist from the comfort of your own home which can be more convenient and cost effective than face to face sessions.

Will I have to attend a certain number of sessions?
You are not in any way required to attend a set number of sessions.

How many sessions will I need?
It is difficult to predict how many sessions will be needed as everyone is unique. I am able to provide open-ended therapy according to your needs and this will be your choice. As an ethical Therapist, I will not coerce you into having more sessions than you need or want.

Will I need to sign a contract?
If we decide to engage together, I will provide you with a working agreement which explains the key points of our working relationship; confidentiality, what you can expect from me, session length, fees and cancellations. This provides us both with a mutual understanding of what to expect. We can also refer back to it and review it at any time during our work together.

Are the sessions confidential?
Trust is an important part of the process, so everything we discuss will remain confidential. The only exceptions to this would be if:-

  • I believed there was an immediate risk of harm to you or others
  • there were a legal requirement e.g serious criminal activity, in the interest of public health or a Court Order

This can be explained in more detail at our initial consultation where any questions you have will also be answered.

Counselling has helped more than I thought possible. I feel better, happier and my anger has completely gone. My life, and that of my family has gained so much.
